Children's cutest disappointment in temple

This post is simply about a small disappointment that most of the children face while going to a temple. This disappointment is experienced from small kids from the age of 5 and keeps haunting till their teen ages.

Young Priest

To your surprise this disappointment is nothing but 'The priest applying the thilak (vibhuthi or kumkum) directly on the forehead while we extend our hand to get the prasadam'.

This is still happening for even elders who goes to temple. This makes the kid embarrassed. Some curious kids doesn't hesitate and asks the priest to give a pinch of vibhuthi or kumkum in their hand.

Applying Thilak on a girl's forehead
As I regularly go for volunteering in the temples, I get this glad opportunity to enjoy seeing the kids asking for a pinch of vibhuthi or kumkum when I directly apply the thilak on their forehead. Some elders voluntarily asks the priest to apply the thilak, whereas some priests don't apply the thilak on the elder's forehead.

While asking for a pinch of prasadams those kids look damn cute. Even though those kids don't know what has been given by the priest, they're eager to have those in their hands. Most of the parents who carry their kids to the temples, asks the priest to apply the thilak on their head. Likewise most of the elders asks the priest to apply the thilak on their forehead. Some of the elders are such lazy they don't want to get it in their hands and then applying those in their foreheads, so they ask the priest to apply. Some of them worries about their hands which might get dirty by getting those prasadams in their hands.

Science behind applying thilak

  • The science behind applying the thilak in the middle of the eyebrows is that the hypnotizing point is located there. So applying thilak on that point acts like a safeguard.
  • Also Kumkum contains anti-bacterial agent turmeric powder which prevents the skin from getting infected.
  • While applying the thilak using middle or ring finger, by gently pressing, helps the electromagnetic waves to pass through and to energize the neural network.
  • It boosts the immune and relaxes our nerves in that region causes the whole body neural network to relax.
  • With the reference of yoga it helps you to have wrinkle free and young looking skin.

These are some of the simple science behind applying thilak. Also applying thilak is an integral part of our cultural practices. Our forefathers lead a healthy life by following such simple yet regular practices of life. Due to this modernization of life, people don't have just few seconds to apply thilak on their forehead regularly or it disturbs their fashion. So I request those who read this post to encourage our near and dear ones to apply thilak at any situation.
