Pradhaskhinam series is started with the motive of throwing
light about various temples that I’m visiting throughout this year 2019.
Pradhakshinam Series – 1B is here. Unlike in the
Pradhakshinam 1A, where I just randomly put up temples, in this post, I’ve
organized and grouped temples as per their locations, so that it would be easy
for my readers to be guided, if in case you people are planning a journey.
In this post I’m talking about temples mainly from the places
near Thanjavur, Various temples in Chennai and important temples that I’ve visited
in the Peralam town of Thiruvarur district and Gunaseelam temple.
Thanjavur
Wherever I go, I put up Thanjavur at the first place, no
matter what, because Thanjavur for me, is not only my hometown, it’s also a
kind of first love and the memories associated with.

| Thanjapureeshwarar Temple |
ThanjaPureeshwarar temple is a temple, located at the
entrance through where one can get into the main city, if one is coming from
Kumbakonam. Located at Palliagraharam, this temple is the main reason that
Thanjavur got its name. Here we have Kuberan, the lord of wealth, worshipped
Lord Shiva.

| Siraikkatha Ayyanar Temple |
Siraikkatha Ayyanar is located in the Palliagraharam area as
well. He is the guardian of Thanjavur for my assumption at least. Because
whenever I leaver the boundary of Thanjavur for any reasons, I’ll go to him and
pray for the journey to be a safe one.

| Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple Thillaisthanam |
Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple at Thillaisthanam, which is
located just 2 kms from Thiruvaiyaru. This temple is located in the Agraharam
of Thillaisthanam.

| Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple, Papanasam |
Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple, Papanasam, located on the main
route that runs from Thanjavur to Kumbakonam. This temple is a 1000 years old
temple, built by Chozhas. I’m wondering how they’ve missed this temple which
has been sung by Aazhwars, not being added in the 108 Divya Desams.

| 16th Century Granary, Thiruppalathurai |
Palaivananathar Temple, Thiruppalathurai, Papanasam, located
in the next bend in the same route, where the above temple is located. This
temple holds the oldest granary, store house of paddy built in the 16th
Century by the Nayaks. It is a Padal Petra Sthalam (sung by the Naalvars) and
is considered as the 19th temple in their order.

| Vaduvoor Ramar Temple |
Sri Kothanda Ramaswamy temple, Vaduvoor. Located in the
nearby area of the banks of a big lake of Vaduvoor, located on the route
towards Mannargudi from Thanjavur. This temple is already a world famous
temple. The Utsava Moorthy of Lord Rama is such a beautifully done, holding the
bow in one hand, bearing a divinely smile. This temple is known as Dakshina
Ayodhya.

| Alangudi Gurusthalam |
Sri Aabathsahayeswarar temple, Alangudi. This is the Parihara
Sthalam of Guru (Jupiter) of Navagraham. This temple where Dakshinamoorthy
holds the limelight as it is a Parihara Sthalam. This temple is praised in the
Thirugnanasambandar’s hymns and is the 98th temple located in the
Southern Bank of River Cauvery. Even though this temple comes in the district
of Thiruvarur, it is located next to Needamangalam which is on the route of
Thanjavur to Thiruvarur.
Peralam Temples
Peralam is a small panchayat town which is easily accessible
from Kumbakonam as well as Thirunallar. I visited 3 important temples of this
area.

| Thirupampuram |
Thirupampuram, located 3 kms from the village of Karkkathi on
the bus route of Kumbakonam to Karaikkal. This temple is located 25 kms from
Kumbakonam and 8 kms from Peralam. This is the temple were all the snakes
prayed to Paambunathar/ Lord Shiva and got relieved from their curse. This
temple hosts a separate sanctum for Lord Rahu and Lord Kethu of Navagrahas.
This temple is also a Parihara Sthalam of Rahu–Kethu Dhosham.

| Thirumiyachur Lalithambigai Temple |
Thirumiyachur, recently wrote 2 posts in my blog about this
temple. Located 2 kms from the town of Peralam. This temple is Well Known as
the birth place of Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam. Lord Shiva worshipped by Lord
Surya. This temple holds much more special history, details given in the "Sthala Puranam of Thirumiyachur"
and "The power of Lalitha Sahasranama Stotram", for the posts of Thirumiyachur.

| Shri Saraswathy, Koothanur |
Shri Saraswathy temple, located in Koothanur, 5 kms from
Peralam. The only temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswathy, the goddess of
education. Devotees buy stationaries and do pooja by keeping it in the feet of
Goddess Saraswathi, to get blessings for their exams and their endeavors.
Approximately 1000 years old temple.
Gunaseelam, Trichy

Prasanna Venkatachalapathy temple, Gunaseelam, Located in
the Northern bank of River Cauvery, 24 kms from Trichy, this temple is located
in the main route of Trichy – Salem. This temple is a well-known temple for
curing mental ailments. This temple is approximately 1000 years old one.

| Kamakshi Temple, Perungalathur |
Visited the temples of Panchamukha Anjaneyar and Sri
Kamakshi temple, located in the main area of Perungalathur. Both the temples
are somehow newly built, should not be more than 50 years old. Though the vibes
in the Panchamukha Anjaneyar temple is divine and the Kamakshi in the Kamakshi
temple is beautifully blessing the devotees with a divinely smile.
Superstars of Chennai
The superstar temples of Chennai are the Shri Kalikambal in
the Chennai beach, Shri Parthasarathy in Triplicane and Shri Kapalishwarar
temple in Mylapore. How could I miss them? Kapali and Partha are the superstars
of Chennai and both the temples surrounded Tambrahm people. In the busy metro
city, it’s a treat for one to see such culturally active areas and temples in
Singaara Chennai.

| Kalikambal, Chennai |
Shri Kalikambal temple as many people may know, is one of
the oldest temple in Chennai. Chathrapathi Shivaji worshipped her when he
visited Chennai on October 3rd 1677, is a great historical
significance of this temple. It is also said that, only after worshipping
Kalikambal, Chathrapathi Shivaji has won a battle in his hometown.

| Parthasarathy Temple, Triplicane |
Shri Parthasarathy temple is almost 2000 years old, located in
Triplicane. Only temple where Lord Vishnu appears with the Moustache as he is
the Sarathy of Arjuna. The main deity in the Sanctum is 9 ft tall and this is a
temple comes under the 108 Divya Desams.

| Kapalishwarar Temple, Mylapore |
Shri Kapalishwarar temple, located in the heart of Chennai
city, Mylapore. Goddess Shakti worshipped Lord Shiva in the form of peacock (In
Thamizh – Mayil), that’s how this place got its name. Consort of Shri
Kapalishwarar, Shri Karpagambal, blessing her devotees with full of kindness
and affection as she is the Goddess of kindness and affection.
West Mambalam
Shri Kasi Vishwanathar temple, located in the West Mambalam,
built in the 17th century. Dedicated to Lord Kasi Vishwanathar of
Varanasi as the name suggests. This temple is also known as the “Mahabilva
Kshetram”. (no photo added)

Shri Kanchi Mutt, located adjacent to the above temple, in
West Mambalam, is another temple which hosts the sanctum of Kanchi Kamakshi,
belongs to the Sri Matam of Kanchipuram. Behind the sanctum is the Goshala.
Mangadu

| Mangadu Kamakshi Amman Temple |
Shri Kamakshi Amman temple, located in Mangadu is again one
of the ancient temple dates back to 2000 years. Shri Chakra placed before the
Goddess holds the limelight here. Before marrying Shri Ekambareshwarar, the
penance taken by Kamakshi is considered as highest form as she stood in the
left toe touching the fire in the central Agni Kundam of 5 total fire pits and
resting her right leg on her left thigh.

Shri Kandaswamy temple, Thiruporur, is one of the famous
temple dedicated to Lord Karthikeya. Built in Om like structure is one of the specialty
of this temple. This temple has witnessed 7 deluges of the world and the
present structure is withstanding the last deluge. Airavat, vehicle of Lord
Indiran has its place in front of Lord Karthikeya.
Why Pradhakshinam ?
As the Pradhakshinam 1A post, restricting myself with 20
temples in 1B of Pradhakshinam series.
The main motive of sharing such short introduction to the
temples that I’ve visited is actually has nothing to do with you. But it’ll
help someone to boost up their mind to go and visit temples frequently, as
temple is a place of positive vibes, it’ll make you all feel good.
